ART 76

Drawing at the Cantor Arts Center

(ART 76)

In this course, our objective will be to practice basic drawing skills and to enjoy the rich collection of the Cantor Arts Center. In order to make a drawing of a mask from Gabon or an old-master painting, we must look carefully and think visually. One minutely observed artwork can be more rewarding than a whole exhibit hurriedly viewed; and if you are in luck, you might feel as if you have somehow reached across time and space to meet that distant artist. All skill levels will benefit from this course, and the practice of sketching in museums may be carried with you wherever you go. Students need only pencils and sketchbooks.

One of our class meetings will be a special viewing in the Cantor Arts Center print and drawing archive. This course will be offered Credit/No Credit only.
