CSP courses may be taken for credit.
Credits cannot be applied toward any Stanford degrees. Credits will be recorded on each student's CSP transcript, and it may be possible to transfer the credits to another university, subject to that university's policies.
A grade of "No Grade Requested" (NGR) is the default for all CSP students and indicates that you have elected not to receive credit for the course. If you wish to receive a letter grade (A, B, C, D, No Pass) or take the course for Credit/No Credit (CR/NC), you must register your grade option with Continuing Studies before the last class meeting. To receive either a letter grade or credit, you must complete the written work required for the course; NGR students do not do written work. Coursework in which a grade of NGR was received does not appear on official transcripts, but will appear on unofficial transcripts, with no credits awarded.
Please note: If your instructor has chosen "Credit/No Credit (CR/NC)" as the grade option for your course, all students will be graded on a credit or no credit basis unless you change your grade option to "No Grade Requested (NGR)." In other words, letter grades are not available and CR/NC or NGR are the only two options available once your instructor has chosen this grading system.
Grade options may be changed at any time before the last class meeting. To change your grade option, please do one of the following: send an email to continuingstudies-gradeoption@stanford.edu; change your grade option at the "Enrollment Status" section of our website; download a form from the website and fax the form to 650-725-4248; or mail us your preference in writing.

Certificate of Completion
Continuing Studies students who have completed at least 18 units are eligible to receive a certificate of completion. A majority of the courses (12 units) must be taken for a letter grade. You must earn a "B-" or higher in letter-graded courses, and a "CR" in courses taken for Credit/No Credit. To request a certificate of completion, please contact our office.
